Mindgardens is pleased to present the third edition of the MindLabs Psychosis webinar series for 2025, Exercise as Treatment: Using Physical Activity to Enhance Outcomes in Psychosis Care, presented by Professor Simon Rosenbaum and Doctor Justin Chapman.

Speakers

Professor Simon Rosenbaum is part of the Discipline of Psychiatry and Mental Health at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney and the co-lead of the NExuS research group (Nutrition, Exercise, and Social Equity). His research focuses on the intersection of physical activity and mental health, particularly for populations exposed to trauma and social disadvantage.

Doctor Justin Chapman is a Lived Experience Research Officer at Metro South Addictions and Mental Health Services (MSAMHS), Research Fellow at Griffith University, and Research Policy Officer at Equally Well. He completed his doctorate in measuring and positively influencing physical activity behaviour in adults with mental illness, and in his current roles he takes a collaborative approach to translational research in health service implementation and dissemination.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the webinar, participants will gain knowledge and insights into physical activity in mental health support through the following learning outcomes:

  1. Understand the evidence supporting the role of physical activity in improving mental and physical health outcomes for individuals with psychosis.
  2. Identify practical strategies for incorporating exercise and movement-based interventions into routine clinical care.
  3. Develop skills to engage and motivate consumers with psychosis in physical activity.
