Mindgardens is pleased to present the fifth edition of the MindLabs Psychosis webinar series for 2025, Psychosis: Ethanol, THC, Mushrooms and Ice, presented by Professor David Castle.

Speaker

Professor David Castle is currently the Professor of Psychiatry at the Centre for Mental Health Services Innovation at the University of Tasmania. His previous positions include inaugural Scientific Director of the Centre for Complex Interventions at the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health, University of Toronto, and Professor of Psychiatry at St Vincent’s Health and the University of Melbourne.

Professor Castle’s wide clinical and research interests include schizophrenia and related disorders, bipolar disorder, cannabis abuse, OCD spectrum disorders and disorders of body image, including Body Dysmorphic Disorder. He has published nearly 900 papers and chapters, and over 25 books. He has also received a number of awards for his work, including the Ian Simpson Award, bestowed in 2015 by the RANZCP in recognition of outstanding contributions to clinical psychiatry as assessed through service to patients and the community.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this webinar, participants will gain knowledge and insights into psychosis and drug abuse through the following learning outcomes:

  • Appreciate the term ‘psychosis’ encompasses a number of different domains.
  • Understand which psychotic symptoms occur in different disorders and in response to which drugs.
  • Appreciate the diversity of drugs of abuse in terms of their propensity to fuel psychotic symptoms.
  • Understand the notion of stress/strengths/vulnerability regarding psychosis in response to drug use.
