Australia’s mental health crisis is affecting people of all ages, with an increasing rise in prevalence in young people. Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionise mental health prevention, early intervention and treatment.

AI is already a part of everyday life for Australians, even if we are not consciously aware of it. Examples include recommender algorithms that suggest music and movies (e.g., Spotify and Netflix), customer service chatbots, social media and curated news feeds, AI features in messaging apps (e.g., WhatsApp), map-based algorithms (e.g., Uber eats) and smart home devices (e.g., Robovacs).
